May this be a snapshot of this moment's amount of study and understanding.
Nidia asks:
What happens to someone when they die? I don't believe in heaven but my grandfather just passed and I can't help to think that no matter what he'll always be around me. As a spirit or something. Anyone?
And I reply:
Firstly, sorry to hear about your grandfather, Nidia :/ According to what I know of Scripture, the dead awaken in the future. NOT in heaven. Yeah, that sounds strange, but I will explain. Messiah Yahusha makes His return to the earth after what is called The Great Distress, or "Great Tribulation", the renown time of when there will be a dictator, powered by Satan, who will require people take a mark on their forehead or right hand in order to live a regular life as a citizen of the world. At Yahusha's coming, the dictator will rouse an army to fight against Him, but He will win. Satan will then be bound for a thousand years, unable to influence the world, and all those who died because they didn't take the mark of that dictator will be resurrected and live with Yahusha on earth for those thousand years. Your grandfather may resurrect then. If not then, there is a second resurrection. After the thousand years on earth, Satan is released and he gathers those on earth who still opposes Yahusha, and then with that battle Satan is destroyed once and for all with all those who chose his side. It is after this battle that the second resurrection takes place and every single human that ever lived will awaken. The Creator then will open up what is called the Scroll of Life. Each human's entire life will be investigated and judged by the Creator for the person's actions. All whose name is written in the Scroll of Life will remain awake while death and those remaining will be thrown into the lake of fire, which is described as the second death. It is after this that a new earth and entirely different heaven is created. Considering that Yahusha's millennial reign has not begun, according to Scripture your grandfather and all of our relatives who have passed are as if asleep. Scripture says they do not think, or feel, nor do their spirits roam the earth. Just like when we actually sleep, we won't really feel time pass, but next thing we know, we'll wake up in the future at either of the resurrections. But at this very moment, the dead are all still asleep.
